Murchison River Lodge has been carefully and sensitively built on the edge of the mighty River Nile overlooking pods of hippos and Uganda’s stunning Murchison Falls National Park. We offer comfortable and relaxing mid-range accommodation in safari tents and beautiful thatched cottages. For those of you travelling with your own tent we have a lovely shady campsite where you can set up camp and should you wish, be completely self sufficient.
Since 2009 the lodge and camp have been a work in progress. From the beginning we had a clear idea of what we wanted to offer visitors travelling to Murchison on safari – a relaxing place where our friends and family would want to stay. However Murchison River Lodge wasn’t that simple to build. The location was a completely wild piece of land that had to be harnessed. Men were employed from the local area and the land was slowly dug up in relation to what needed doing first. Pipes, drains and foundations were laid. Boreholes gave us the run around, roads got washed away and the wildlife was often far too curious and kept us on our toes.
We currently offer the following mid-range accommodation at Murchison River Lodge. Our beautiful family thatched cottages are spacious and comfortable and the careful finishing’s make each one truly special. They are equipped with bed linen, towels, mosquito nets (one very large one covers the twin beds), en-suite flushing toilet, shower and hot water. The room is open plan with a double bed on a mezzanine floor that you reach by a set of stairs, and directly below two single beds look out onto bush land through a large screened window. The wooden veranda has a sofa and swinging hammock enabling you need to sit back, or lie back and enjoy the view – don’t forget your binoculars as the bird life is incredible. Please note that our cottages don’t have fans or air conditioning.
