Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park is arguably the best national park for wildlife safaris in Uganda. The Park is nestled in the northwestern region of the country, in Masindi, Kiryandongo, Nwoya, and Buliisa districts. It is both the largest and oldest national park in Uganda, what a feeling visiting such a special Park! The Park is about 5 hours’ drive from the capital city of Uganda, Kampala, and it is renowned for its varied wildlife and the beautiful nature. A trip to Murchison Falls National Park is never boring as there are various things to discover and a variety of activities to indulge in.

The Park resides the world’s greatest waterfall, the Murchison Falls, through which the Park gets its name. Other things to do and see

On your way heading to this fantastic Park, in Nakasongola district, you will stop at the 70 square kilometers Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – the only home for wild rhinos. This is the only spot in Uganda for tracking the rhinos. After tracking these huge animals, you will further drive to the remarkable Park to spot a variety of wildlife species on your game drives. Among the animals to spot include the four of Africa’s big five species; African Lions, African Savanna Elephants, African Leopards, and African Lions – therefore a trip to Murchison Falls National Park will offer you a great opportunity to spot all the big five, after seeing the rhinos in the sanctuary.

The boat cruise on River Nile, in the Park, offers a great adventure as well. The other animals to sight in the Park include; waterbucks, Rothschild’s giraffes, bushbucks, Uganda Kob, Jackson’s hartebeests, olive baboons, and warthogs, among others.

The Park offers many mesmerizing activities such as; the fascinating boat cruise beneath the Murchison Falls, game drives, chimpanzee tracking in the Budongo Forest, visiting the top of the falls, and birding – there are possibilities of spotting a shoebill. You can also explore the Park’s attractions in a hot air balloon and enjoy the beautiful aerial view of the entire Park.
